ES Kick-Off Night and Registration
The ES Kick-Off Night/Fiesta de Inicio will be held at the Crescent Valley High School Auditorium (4444 NW Highland Drive) on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, from 7-8:30pm. At Kick-Off Night, families will learn about the program, meet teachers and staff, register and pay, and rent instruments from Windsmith Music. You can expedite the rental process by renting an instrument online through Windsmith.
Parents, bring your child to Kick-Off!
Returning ES students are not required to attend Kick-Off. They can go to Windsmith directly to rent their instrument, and they will be given their new music books at the first day of ES class. They must be registered to attend class:
ES Program Overview
Music educators agree on the importance of cultivating young string musicians at an early age. Playing an instrument increases reasoning skills and builds teamwork, discipline, cooperation, and a sense of belonging. Learning to make music encourages creativity. More importantly, it’s just plain fun!
The Corvallis Youth Symphony Association provides direction and support for the Elementary Strings (ES), Levels 1, 2, and 2 Advanced. All public, private, and home school students in third, fourth, and fifth grades are invited to enroll in Elementary Strings classes. Parents are encouraged to register for classes with their children, free of charge!
Lessons and Performances
Strings instruction for Levels 1, 2, and 2 Advanced consists of two, 45-minute classes per week. Classes begin the first week of October and run through May.
The Winter ES Concerts will be performed in the auditorium of Crescent Valley High School (CVHS) on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 3pm. There is a mandatory dress rehearsal for this concert on Friday, January 24 at 6pm at Crescent Valley High School.
The Spring ES Concerts will be performed in the auditorium of Crescent Valley High School (CV) on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 3pm. There is a mandatory dress rehearsal for this concert on Friday, May 29 at 6pm at Crescent Valley High School.
Encore! is the honors Elementary Strings orchestra for Level 2/2+ students who seek more of a challenge. Students who attend Corvallis public schools must also be members of an ES class to participate in Encore!. Homeschooled and private school students are welcomed to join Encore! if they are recommended by their music teacher. Rehearsals begin after Spring Break and take place on Monday evenings at Crescent Valley High School from 6:45-8pm, culminating in a performance at the final ES concert (May 30). Encore! is conducted by Annissa Bolder.
A non-refundable materials and registration fee of $40 must be paid at time of registration.
Tuition payments may be made in full ($420), or as eight monthly payments of $60. The monthly payment plan costs more to cover the extra labor involved in collecting tuition. If possible, please pay in full.
Instruments can be rented locally from Windsmith Music. The cost of instrument rental is not included in ES program fees.
We want all students to participate in Elementary Strings regardless of financial considerations. Questions about need-based financial aid should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or you may call (541) 766-4903 for more information.
To ensure that all students can participate in this enrichment activity, we welcome tax-deductible donations from our Elementary Strings parents. The Corvallis Youth Symphony Association is a tax-exempt 501c(3) organization.
After you have paid 3 months’ tuition (through December), you may drop out of ES with 1-month notice to our office by the 5th day of the prior month.
