Music educators agree on the importance of cultivating young string musicians at an early age. Playing an instrument increases reasoning skills and builds teamwork, discipline, cooperation and a sense of belonging. Learning to make music encourages creativity. More importantly, it’s just plain fun!
The Corvallis Youth Symphony Association provides direction and support for the Elementary Strings (ES), Levels 1, 2, and 2 Advanced. All public, private, and home school students in third, fourth, and fifth grades are invited to enroll in Elementary Strings classes. Parents are encouraged to register for classes with their children, free of charge.
Lessons and Performances
Strings instruction for Levels 1, 2, and 2 Advanced consists of two, 45-minute classes per week. Classes begin the first week of October and run through May.
The Winter ES Concert will be performed in the auditorium of Crescent Valley High School (CVHS) on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 3pm.
The Spring ES Concert will be performed in the auditorium of Crescent Valley High School (CV) on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 3pm.
A non-refundable materials and registration fee of $35 must be paid at time of registration.
Tuition payments may be made in full ($405), or as eight monthly payments of $58. The monthly payment plan costs more to cover the extra labor involved in collecting tuition. If possible, please pay in full.
Instruments can be rented locally from Windsmith Music. The cost of instrument rental is not included in ES program fees. You can see Windsmith’s instrument rental brochure here, and Windmith’s rental paperwork here.
We want all students to participate in Elementary Strings regardless of financial considerations. Questions about need-based financial aid should be emailed to email@example.com or you may call (541) 766-4903 for more information.
To ensure that all students can participate in this enrichment activity, we welcome tax-deductible donations from our Elementary Strings parents. The Corvallis Youth Symphony Association is a tax-exempt 501c(3) organization.

Kick-Off Night and Registration
The ES Kick-Off Night will be held at the Crescent Valley High School Auditorium (4444 NW Highland Drive) on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, from 7-8:30pm. At Kick-Off Night, families will learn about the program, meet teachers and staff, register and pay, and rent instruments (from Windsmith), if needed. You can expedite the process by filling out Windsmith’s rental paperwork ahead of time, and bringing it with you!
Returning ES students are not required to attend Kick-Off. They can go to Windsmith directly to rent their instrument, and they will be given their new music books at the first day of ES class. They must be registered to attend class.
