About CYSA

The Corvallis Youth Symphony Association is a non-profit organization, founded in 1982. CYSA was founded to provide talented young musicians with an exceptional musical experience, enhance their school music programs, and develop an awareness and appreciation of great music in the students and the community.

Programs

The association provides direction and support for three performing groups.

For young students, the Elementary Strings program provides beginning instruction in violin, viola and cello at the local elementary schools.

Students who have progressed further in their music education can audition for the Willamette Valley Junior Honors Symphony, a first experience with a full-symphony orchestra.

The Corvallis Youth Symphony, comprising the most advanced students, performs standard symphonic repertoire. Among the many conductors and soloists who have come to coach and perform with the orchestra are The Amelia Piano Trio, Alan Hovhaness, Hans-Dieter Resch, Daniel Epstein, and Tian Ying. February 2006 saw the return of Pink Martini and CYS.
